POSITIONING & SHAPE OF EARS

Otoplasty

Otoplasty, commonly known as ear pinning surgery or ear correction surgery, is a procedure that reshapes or repositions the ears to create a more balanced and natural appearance. One of the most common concerns addressed by Otoplasty is protruding ears, which can lead to self-consciousness and emotional distress, particularly in children.

This condition is often caused by insufficient ear cartilage development or an incorrect angle of the ears relative to the skull. Otoplasty can be performed at any age.

What is Otoplasty Surgery?

Otoplasty surgery involves reshaping the external ear by altering the cartilage and repositioning the ear closer to the head. The procedure is tailored to each patient to ensure symmetry and natural-looking results.

Key Benefits of Otoplasty:

  • Reduces the prominence of the ears, improving facial balance.

  • Corrects deformities caused by cartilage irregularities.

  • Boosts confidence.

The Otoplasty Procedure

Incision and Reshaping

The surgery is performed via a small incision at the back of the ear (known as the pinna), which becomes virtually invisible after healing.

Reshaping the Cartilage

The cartilage is reshaped and repositioned to create the desired contour. The ears are then secured in their new position using absorbable sutures, which do not need to be removed.

Bandaging

An elastic bandage is applied after surgery to protect the ears and maintain their new position during the healing process.

ENHANCING BEAUTY & CONFIDENCE

Recovery After Otoplasty Surgery

One of the advantages of Otoplasty surgery is the minimal downtime and aftercare required, making it a relatively straightforward procedure.

Post-Surgery Care:

  • A protective headband must be worn for at least 1-2 weeks after the procedure, especially during sleep, to prevent accidental trauma to the ears.

  • Patients can typically resume normal activities within 1-2 weeks.

  • Avoid contact sports or activities that may put pressure on the ears for at least 4-6 weeks.

Otoplasty Recovery Timeline:

  • 1-2 weeks: Most swelling and bruising subside.

  • 6-8 weeks: Full healing is typically complete, and the final ear shape will be visible.

By following your surgeon’s aftercare instructions, any discomfort during recovery will be minimised.

Is Otoplasty Permanent?

Yes, Otoplasty results are permanent. Once the ear cartilage has healed in its new position, the change is long-lasting. However, it is important to protect the ears during the initial healing phase to avoid trauma or accidental bending that could affect the final result.

How Much is Otoplasty Surgery in the UK?

The cost of Otoplasty surgery varies depending on the complexity of the case and whether you would like a unilateral or bilateral procedure. Mr Bast's prices start from £6600 for a Pinnaplasty (unilateral) and £7700 for a Pinnaplasty (bilateral).
