NON-SURGICAL AESTHETIC PROCEDURES
Injectable Treatments
Injectables are used to smooth facial wrinkles and folds (such as ‘smile lines’), contour and sculpt the body (such as reducing the appearance of a ‘double chin’) and restore facial volume lost due to ageing, creating a more youthful structure and framework for the face and lips. There are different types of injectable procedures that improve various areas of concern.
Mr Florian Bast is a leading facial plastic surgeon with a wealth of experience in delivering expert injectable treatments, even in complex cases. We always recommend you seek the advice of a professionally trained medical practitioner when seeking any type of injectable procedure.

AGEING ON YOUR OWN TERMS
Anti-Wrinkle Treatment
Facial muscles, particularly those used in frequent expressions, are prone to early wrinkle formation and expression lines. Typical examples are the vertical ‘anger lines’ between the eyebrows (Glabella lines), ‘crow’s feet’ around the outer corners of the eyes, and ‘worry lines’ (the horizontal lines on the forehead). Injectable treatments can be used as a minimally invasive method of addressing these lines.
How do anti-wrinkle injections work?
Anti-wrinkle injections use neurotoxins like Botox to temporarily reduce muscle contractions, effectively smoothing out wrinkles and lines. This technique is considered the gold standard in non-surgical facial rejuvenation. As a consequence of muscle relaxation, the facial lines are smoothed, and shallower lines will disappear entirely. Depending on the injected amount and patient, the effects will last for several months.
In addition, anti-wrinkle injections may be used successfully to reduce excessive sweating (mainly in the armpits and palms of hands), as well as to reduce excessive saliva production. There is also potential for its usage in the treatment of tension headaches, migraines, and teeth grinding.
What happens during anti-wrinkle injectable treatment?
During an anti-wrinkle injectable treatment, a fine needle is used to inject a small amount of neurotoxin directly into targeted facial muscles. The neurotoxin temporarily blocks the nerve signals to these muscles, preventing them from contracting and causing wrinkles. The procedure typically takes just a few minutes and involves minimal discomfort, often described as a slight pinching sensation. Most patients do not require anaesthesia, though a numbing cream can be applied if needed. After the injection, the treated area may show slight redness or swelling, which usually subsides within a few hours. The results begin to appear within a few days, leading to smoother, more relaxed skin
How long will anti-wrinkle injectables last?
The full effect of the treatment develops approximately 3-5 days after the injection and lasts around 3-4 months. A lasting effect of up to one year may be achieved with repeated treatment. Since there is typically only a small reddening at the injection points, you will be presentable immediately after the treatment. I conduct an initial analysis of both skin and lines, which is recorded for reference at repeat visits. I exclusively use Azzalure by Galderma.
What is the aftercare for anti-wrinkle injectable treatment?
The aftercare for anti-wrinkle injectable treatment is straightforward but crucial to ensure the best results and minimise any potential side effects. Patients are advised to avoid touching or massaging the treated areas for the first hours to prevent the neurotoxin from spreading to unintended muscles. It’s also recommended to avoid strenuous exercise, excessive heat (like saunas or hot tubs), and alcohol for the first day, as these can increase the risk of bruising.
You may experience mild redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection sites, but these effects typically subside within a few hours to a couple of days. Cold compresses can help reduce any swelling or discomfort. Your practitioner may also schedule a follow-up appointment if needed to assess the results and discuss any further treatments.
What are the risks of anti-wrinkle injectable treatment?
While anti-wrinkle injectable treatments are generally safe when performed by a qualified medical professional, there are some potential risks and side effects to be aware of. Common, mild side effects include temporary redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site, which usually resolve within a few days. Some patients may experience headaches or flu-like symptoms shortly after the treatment.
In rare cases, the neurotoxin may spread beyond the intended muscles, leading to unintended effects such as drooping of the eyelids or eyebrows, asymmetry of facial expressions, or difficulty swallowing. These effects are typically temporary but can last for a few weeks or months.
Allergic reactions to the injectable substance are extremely rare but possible, manifesting as itching, rash, or difficulty breathing. To minimise risks, it’s important to disclose your full medical history and any current medications to your practitioner before treatment. Always ensure that the treatment is performed by an experienced and licensed professional in a sterile environment. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects, contact your practitioner immediately for advice.

ADDRESSING AESTHETIC CONCERNS
Hyaluronic Filler Treatment
In rare instances, more serious complications can occur. These include the risk of infection, allergic reactions, or prolonged swelling. There is also a risk of vascular occlusion, where the filler inadvertently blocks a blood vessel, potentially leading to tissue damage. This is a medical emergency and requires immediate attention.
To minimise risks, it's crucial to follow all pre- and post-treatment instructions provided by your practitioner. If you notice any unusual symptoms, such as severe pain, discolouration, or prolonged swelling, seek medical advice immediately.
A wide variety of hyaluronic acid fillers are available, allowing for tailored treatments to address fine lines, deep wrinkles, and facial contouring. Finer fillers are suitable for the treatment of early superficial lines, lip lines, and early-onset forehead lines. Deeper lines may be treated with stronger hyaluronic acid solutions. This treatment can improve facial contours, and achieve an immediate, striking rejuvenation of the treated area. Additionally, specific hyaluronic preparations are perfectly suited to enhance lips by revitalising contours and volume.
I exclusively use hyaluronic acid products by Galderma (→Restylane).
How do hyaluronic acid filler treatments work?
These non-permanent fillers are naturally absorbed by the body over time, providing a safe and reversible option for facial enhancement. This requires repeated treatment, and allows changes to be made subsequently, depending on the patient’s desired outcome and age. The greatest advantage is the excellent tolerability of these absorbable materials, with a very low rate of complications in comparison to permanent fillers. Depending on the area treated and the fillers used, results last between 6-12 months.
What happens during hyaluronic acid filler treatment?
A painless treatment is paramount. This is achieved by applying anaesthetic cream beforehand, using fillers mixed with low dose local anaesthetic, and applying cooling packs to the area immediately after treatment. Swelling may still occur and last for two-three days, especially in the lip area. Patients should ideally plan treatment at times when they can accommodate this impact socially.
What are the risks of hyaluronic acid filler treatment?
Hyaluronic acid filler treatments are widely regarded as safe, especially when administered by a qualified and experienced professional. However, as with any aesthetic procedure, there are potential risks and side effects that patients should be aware of.
Common side effects include temporary redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness at the injection sites. These reactions are typically mild and resolve within a few days. Some patients may also experience slight asymmetry or lumps in the treated area, which usually settle as the filler integrates with the surrounding tissue.

NON-SURGICAL TREATMENT DELIVERED BY A LEADING PLASTIC SURGEON
Injectables can improve the appearance of your skin
IMPROVE ELASTICITY
SkinBooster
Another effective method of skin rejuvenation is SkinBooster by Restylane. SkinBoosters are a unique type of hyaluronic acid treatment designed not to add volume, but to deeply hydrate and rejuvenate the skin, improving its moisture content and elasticity. This treatment can be performed in the face, hands, or neckline. In addition, this treatment can improve the appearance of the skin, by addressing conditions such as acne scars and UV-damaged skin.
Several treatments are necessary in order to improve the moisture content of the skin long-term, as well as to preserve the elasticity and smoothness of the skin.
What happens during the SkinBooster procedure?
The process begins with a consultation where your practitioner will assess your skin’s condition and discuss your goals to create a personalised treatment plan. This initial step ensures that the procedure is tailored to meet your specific needs and deliver the best possible results.
On the day of the treatment, the area to be treated is thoroughly cleansed to ensure it’s free from any impurities. To enhance your comfort during the procedure, a topical numbing cream or local anaesthetic may be applied to the area, particularly if you have concerns about discomfort. This step helps to minimise any sensation during the injections and ensures a more pleasant experience.
The actual treatment involves the precise injection of hyaluronic acid-based SkinBooster into the deeper layers of the skin. The practitioner uses a fine needle or cannula to administer small amounts of the product in a series of strategically placed injections. These are carefully distributed across the treatment area to ensure even coverage and optimal hydration. The number of injections and the technique used can vary depending on the specific area being treated and the desired outcome. Common treatment areas include the face, neck, décolletage, and hands—places that often show signs of ageing and benefit from enhanced hydration and elasticity.
As the hyaluronic acid begins to work, you’ll notice a gradual improvement in your skin’s hydration, smoothness, and overall appearance. For the best results, a series of treatments spaced a few weeks apart is often recommended, with maintenance sessions every six months to keep your skin looking its best. SkinBooster treatments are highly valued for their ability to deliver subtle, yet noticeable, enhancements, leaving your skin feeling refreshed, supple, and naturally radiant.
What is the aftercare for SkinBooster?
After a SkinBooster treatment, proper aftercare is essential to maximise results and minimise any potential side effects. Immediately following the procedure, you may experience some mild redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection sites, which is normal and typically subsides within a few days. It’s important to avoid touching or massaging the treated areas to prevent any disruption to the injected hyaluronic acid.
For the first 24-48 hours, it is recommended to avoid excessive sun exposure, saunas, hot tubs, and strenuous exercise, as these activities can exacerbate swelling or increase the risk of bruising. Applying a cold compress to the treated areas can help reduce any discomfort and swelling. Your practitioner may also advise you to avoid alcohol for a short period after the treatment to further reduce the risk of bruising. Follow-up appointments may be scheduled to monitor your progress and discuss any additional treatments that could enhance your results. Overall, adhering to these aftercare guidelines will help ensure that your skin looks its best following the SkinBooster treatment.
What are the risks associated with SkinBooster?
While SkinBooster treatments are generally safe and well-tolerated, there are some risks and potential side effects to be aware of. Common side effects include mild redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness at the injection sites, which usually resolve within a few days. In rare cases, patients may experience lumps or uneven texture in the treated areas, though these typically smooth out as the hyaluronic acid integrates with the skin. There is also a small risk of infection, as with any procedure involving injections, so it’s important that the treatment is performed in a sterile environment by a qualified practitioner.
Allergic reactions to the hyaluronic acid used in SkinBoosters are extremely rare, given its compatibility with the body’s natural substances, but they can occur. More serious complications, such as vascular occlusion, where the filler unintentionally blocks a blood vessel, are very uncommon but require immediate medical attention if they occur. Following all aftercare instructions and choosing an experienced practitioner significantly reduces these risks, ensuring a safe and effective treatment.

IMPROVE MOISTURE AND SKIN LIFT
Profhilo
Profhilo® is a pioneering hyaluronic acid moisturising treatment, using patented NAHYCO® technology to deliver deep skin hydration and combat skin laxity. This results in a unique hyaluronic acid injectable gel, which has prolonged stimulating activity on the dermal cells. When injected into skin, Profhilo stimulates the skin cell receptors to counteract skin laxity and improve and restore the firmness of the skin.
How does Profhilo work?
One of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid on the market, Profhilo not only boosts and hydrates the skin, but also remodels ageing and sagging tissue. The most common areas of treatment include the face and neck, but it can also be used for the décolletage, hands, arms, knees and abdomen area. The treatment is suitable for men and women, and offers skin benefits for patients of all ages.
What happens during a Profhilo treatment?
During a Profhilo treatment, ultra-pure hyaluronic acid is injected into the skin to stimulate hydration and collagen production, improving skin laxity and firmness. The procedure typically begins with a consultation where your practitioner assesses your skin and discusses your goals. On the day of the treatment, the targeted areas, often the face, neck, or hands, are cleansed thoroughly. A topical numbing cream may be applied to enhance comfort, although the injections are generally well-tolerated.
Profhilo is then injected using the BAP (Bio Aesthetic Points) technique, which involves five precise injection points on each side of the face or other treatment area. This strategic placement ensures even distribution and maximises the treatment’s benefits. The entire process is quick, usually taking about 15-30 minutes, with minimal discomfort and no need for downtime. The injected hyaluronic acid will spread beneath the skin, boosting hydration and stimulating collagen and elastin production, resulting in smoother, firmer skin over the following weeks.
How long will the results of Profhilo last?
The effects of Profhilo treatment typically last around 6 to 12 months, depending on factors such as your skin type, age, and lifestyle. After the initial treatment, which usually involves two sessions spaced four weeks apart, you will begin to see improvements in skin hydration, firmness, and overall texture within a few weeks. To maintain the results, many patients opt for follow-up treatments every six months, which helps to prolong the benefits and keep the skin looking youthful and revitalised.
What is the aftercare for Profhilo?
After a Profhilo treatment, aftercare is straightforward but important to ensure the best results. You may experience mild redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection sites, which typically subsides within a few hours to a couple of days. It's recommended to avoid touching or massaging the treated areas for at least 24 hours to prevent any disturbance to the injected hyaluronic acid.
Additionally, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive heat (such as saunas or hot tubs), and direct sun exposure for the first 48 hours after treatment. Applying a cold compress can help reduce any swelling or discomfort. You should also avoid alcohol for 24 hours post-treatment to minimise the risk of bruising. Following these aftercare guidelines will help ensure optimal results and a smoother recovery.
What are the risks of Profhilo treatment?
Profhilo treatment is generally safe, but like any aesthetic procedure, it comes with some potential risks and side effects. Common side effects include mild redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection sites, which typically resolve within a few days. Some patients may also experience tenderness or a slight lumpiness in the treated areas, though this usually smooths out as the hyaluronic acid spreads beneath the skin.
In rare cases, more serious complications can occur, such as infection or allergic reactions, though these are uncommon due to the high purity of the hyaluronic acid used in Profhilo. Another rare risk is vascular occlusion, where the filler accidentally blocks a blood vessel, leading to more serious complications that require immediate medical attention. To minimise these risks, it is crucial to have the procedure performed by an experienced and qualified practitioner in a sterile environment. Following all aftercare instructions also plays a key role in reducing the likelihood of complications and ensuring a smooth recovery.
